Public Lands
Access to Montana’s public lands is our greatest gift, and it must always be protected. When my kids were young, summer vacations for our family meant two-week camping trips at places like Benchmark in the Lewis & Clark National Forest, Branham Lakes in Madison County or Monture Creek just down the road from Helena. We didn’t have much money—but that didn’t matter, because Montana’s public lands gave us access to world-class adventures, right in our own backyard.
Those experiences shaped my love for this state and my deep belief that everyone, regardless of income or background, should be able to enjoy the forests, rivers, and trails that belong to all of us. Growing up with four brothers made hunting seasons a big deal! Respect for our public lands, the water and wildlife are deeply embedded as I was taught, by example, to “leave it better than you found it.”
Public lands are the great equalizer in Montana. But that promise is at risk. We've recently seen federal proposals that would sell off our shared lands to the highest bidder, putting billionaires ahead of public access.
As your legislator, I’ll fight to protect public access, oppose land sell-offs, and defend the outdoor heritage that defines who we are as Montanans. These lands are ours—and I’ll work every day to keep them that way.
